House at Allamanda Grove
Allamanda Groove, Singapore
The existing detached house is extensively reconstructed into a 3-storey bungalow with environment consideration in mind. The design seeks to minimize heat gain while maximizing natural light and ventilation throughout the house. A combination of horizontal sun shading elements, vertical operable screens, deep set windows and overhanging roof filters any direct impact of the sun into the house. The tall living room volume flows through the open staircase and into roof ventilators, encouraging constant vertical movement of air while the adjacent swimming pool cools the surrounding spaces. This is supplemented with a selection of good insulating materials, natural landscaping as well as low-energy mechanical ventilation systems.
